Program

• The Matthew 25 Ministry officially launched in January 2015 with the goal to regularly visit the Catholic parishioners who reside in the local nursing homes and those who are homebound and unable to regularly attend Mass.

• Ministry disciples visit residents of extended care facilities within the Parish boundaries.  Currently, visitors reach out to residents of 7 facilities in Moore County, including:

  • Brookdale Senior Living
  • Fox Hollow Senior Living Community
  • Magnolia Gardens Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation
  • Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center
  • Quail Haven Retirement Village
  • Seven Lakes Assisted Living and Memory Care
  • The Greens Rehabilitation and Living Center
• This year alone, the ministry has grown from 10 to 52 volunteers and is proactively seeking to increase the number of volunteers to 80 to meet the basic needs of the ministry.
• With utmost joy, the ministry consists of families, singles, married couples and friends who share a mission to develop a relationship with our elderly parishioners as they share the love of the Catholic Church.
• The ministry has one overall COORDINATOR and he works with the CORE VOLUNTEERS. These CORE VOLUNTEERS manage the visitations at each individual nursing home and we have one CORE VOLUNTEER who manages all home visits. You, as a VISITING VOLUNTEER, will work directly with your CORE VOLUNTEER to pick the most appropriate resident.
• The ministry meets on the first Wednesday of odd-numbered months at 9:00 am at Sacred Heart Church.  See our calendar for specifics or changes.  We welcome new volunteers and would love to invite you to participate in this ministry.

As part of the Matthew 25 ministry, a new resource will be added to help parishioners understand senior living options.

 A Senior Living Advisor will be available to provide support to parishioners and family members who are about to make a decision to enter a Long Term Care (LTC) facility, stay in their home or become more informed about resources offered in the community.  This includes meeting with individuals who are in the hospital, rehabilitation facility or at home.  This Ministry would provide guidance as well as resource material. 

Discussions will be on a confidential and individual basis.

Recommendations will not be made by the Advisor, but will provide resources and support in the decision-making process.

Mary White worked as a registered nurse for nine years before attaining her Master's in Nursing degree and becoming a Certified Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (NP). She has worked as a NP in multiple primary care settings, including several Medical clinics with a largely geriatic patient population.

For parishioners faced with increasing medical or physical care demands, she is available to assist in decisions regarding in-home versus facility options.
